Black pearl shell is built from natural shell material rather than standard plastic laminate, and the difference shows in how the surface behaves under light. Gibson changed the body shape and mounting-hole locations over different production periods, so this pickguard does not fit every Les Paul Junior. The supplier has confirmed that it does not fit the 2000 Gibson Les Paul Junior.
