Cort Elrick NJS Series 4-String Bass Guitar: A Modern Jazz Standard
The Cort Elrick NJS Series 4-String Bass Guitar is a collaboration between Cort and world-renowned luthier Rob Elrick of Elrick Bass Guitars. The NJS, short for New Jazz Standard, is a modern j-bass styled bass with unique features such as angled headstock, 24 frets with zero fret, a “heel-less” body design with extended treble access, and Voiced Tone VTB-ST pickups with Bartolini preamp. The NJS is designed for serious bass players who want a high-quality bass with innovative design and superb playability.
Alder Body and Hard Maple Neck and Fingerboard
The NJS has an Alder body that provides a perfectly balanced tone with a slight boost on high mid range. Alder is one of the most ideal tonewoods for solid body basses since the 1950s. The neck is made of 3-piece hard maple with a roasted maple fingerboard for enhanced stability and a bolder sound. The roasted Maple also gives the fingerboard a golden-brownish look for a more vintage vibe. The neck has an angled headstock that improves tuning stability and reduces string tension. The neck also has 24 frets with a zero fret for better intonation and action.
Voiced Tone VTB-ST Pickups and Bartolini Preamp
The NJS features Voiced Tone VTB-ST single-coil pickups that perfectly complement the big robust sound of the bass with modern clarity, transparency and vintage warmth. The pickups are hum-canceling and deliver punchy and warm mids and transparent and brilliant highs for a superbly balanced sound. The pickups are paired with a specially designed Bartolini preamp that features 3-band EQ, 2-way push/pull mid select, and push/pull active bypass for a variety of tone combinations and manipulations. The preamp allows you to switch between active and passive modes for different musical situations.
Hipshot Ultralite Tuners and MetalCraft M Bridge
The NJS features Hipshot Ultralite tuners that offer tuning accuracy and stability. The tuners are lightweight and reduce the neck-dive effect. The MetalCraft M bridge is a solid, high-mass bridge that enhances resonance and tone transfer. The bridge has a dual string loading system that allows you to load the strings either through the body or from the top to find the best optimal string tension, resulting in enhanced sustain, greater playability and focused sound. The bridge has a string spacing of 19mm (0.750") for the 4-string model.
